The Colwell story began decades ago when Bill Colwell Sr. entered the automotive business during the 1960s. In 1975, Bill Colwell Sr. and Bill Colwell Jr. opened Bill Colwell's Auto Mart in Waterloo, Iowa. That commitment to serving customers continued in 1984 when Bill Colwell Jr. purchased the Ford dealership in Hudson, Iowa, establishing what would become Bill Colwell Ford.
Over the following decades, the dealership earned a reputation for exceptional customer care, receiving Ford's prestigious President's Award three times—in 1999, 2009, and 2011.
In 2007, Blake Colwell joined the family business, representing the second generation of leadership. In 2025, he expanded the Colwell family with the acquisition of the Mason City Ford Lincoln and Mason City Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealerships, creating Colwell Motors of Mason City. Today, Blake continues the same customer-first philosophy established by his father while leading the dealership into its next chapter.
